The Home Tour is Over!

Welcome to my home...

I've been asked for many years to be part of my town's home tour. I have always came up with some excuse not to. This year I gave in and began the process of finishing all of the little projects in the house that had just gone to the wayside. I suppose the home tour is a blessing in disguise since it forced me to get things DONE!

This is the entry way to the house, I fell in love with those long striped stockings when I saw them. I don't have a chimney, so they are hung right by the door. Don't want to make Santa go too far. The little wooden table was made by my Great Grandfather Walter many years ago.

This is our living room, the most important room in the house according to my husband. The TV room! If you haven't figured it out already, I am a HUGE lover of antiques, in particular, primitives. Our TV is on last years Christmas present, a 6' drysink. I holds the stereo, cds and movies. In the corner is an old workshop storage unit. All of the drawers have tin bottoms.

The dining room above is on winter greenery overload! The tattered quilt on the table is my favorite thing in this room. The dough bowl was very popular on the home tour, everyone wanted to know what exactly that thing was.

This is a close-up of the china hutch.

As far as Christmas goes, I didn't get too carried away in the kitchen. Just a little touch here and there. When we bought the house the cupboards were very dark and the counter tops were blue. It is amazing how much change a little paint makes.

If you've paid any attention to my blog, you know what this room is. Like the kitchen there are just little holiday touches in the bathroom.

I purposely wanted a smaller vanity when we redid the bathroom, but that doesn't leave much room for knick-knacks!

I found the easiest way to add Christmas touches was with greenery, all I did here was add some pics to the top of the cupboard and hang an ornament from the knob.

Our bedroom might be one of the next remodel projects on our list. But I do love it now. There is a little tree in an old paint bucket on the bench.

I just bought this little wooden bench a couple of weeks ago, it works great in the bedroom to hold some holiday decor!

Off the kitchen is a sunken den. It is primarily a catchall room for us, with no real purpose. I love the big window that looks out into our back yard.

This old grocery scale got outfitted with some holiday potpourri. This picture looks into the den.

I just finished my office. My neighbor was gracious enough to lay the carpet for me at short notice! You may have noticed another one of my weaknesses, crocks. I built the crock shelf just for those. That wasn't very smart of me, once they were all in one spot my husband noticed how many I had!

Here is where I try to get things done. I told myself now that I had a room to devote to crafting I would actually have to get something done. I'm still trying to live up to that one.

I have little trees sprinkled all over the house and three bigger ones set up. This is the main tree. It is called a Tahoe or Charlie Brown tree. It is decorated simply with a few bulbs and lights. I wanted a real tree, but then I would have to keep it green, keep the dog from peeing on it, keep the cats out of it.... So artificial sounded really good after a thought.

This is my "country" tree in the den. It is covered in cloth and wood ornaments and popcorn garland.

Lastly my Americana tree in the spare bedroom. This tree is full of navy and red garlands with patriotic ornaments.

I hope you enjoyed these photos from my home tour. I took many more, but these were my favorites. It has been a crazy month already, so if I don't post again until after the 25th, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Blessings, Heather

Busy Busy Busy Time of Year

The weather has quickly turned to winter. On one of our nice days, I managed to plant some spring bulbs. LOTS of bulbs. I was so sick of digging holes! When spring comes I'll forget about that though, when they all start popping up.

This was the scene the other day at the car lot. I am ready for some snow, but I really am not looking forward to having to clean snow around all of those cars. Luckily so far any snow has quickly melted. I know that's not going to last though.

What have I been up to?

I've decided that I need a craft room. I had a bedroom that was empty so here we go! After the bathroom remodel took so long, I am determined to get this room done quickly.

First off I painted the ceiling. Who ever thought glittery ceilings were cool? When I got done my husband said nice, how many more rooms to go? Right... The picture of my hand above shows how splattered I got, I can't image painting the ceilings in rooms with furniture and carpet. It is so much nicer though with a clean white look. I've always wanted white trim too, that took some time, three coats later. See who's peeking around the door. He would really rather I pay attention to him than paint.

These bottom two pictures are the finished result, yes I said finished! You can't tell from the pictures too well, but the walls before were a light green and now are a khaki color. I am going to get new fabric for the french door curtains. They lead into the closet. Wouldn't a tan and white ticking look nice? Okay so maybe I shouldn't have said finished. My carpet should be laid next week, then I can start moving things in!

I'm taking part in a Home Tour this Christmas, so it will be nice to have this room ready to go for that! Once I get everything decorated, I'll post pictures!

Why can't I get anything done?

Let's see, I don't have any children so I can't use them as an excuse why things don't get done around here very fast. I guess I can blame it on my nontraditional children. This is Josie, she is such a big help. I got a table out of the store room so I could stretch out my crafts and get things done today. Good thing I got the extra table she wouldn't let me use my desk. See her smiling in the second picture, she's so happy with herself.

This is Sylvie, I snapped this picture of her cause I couldn't figure out how she could possibly be comfortable, but she seems to be just fine.

This is one thing that I managed to get done today. I've listed her on ebay, so we'll see how that goes. She stands on a black candle stick about 16" tall. One-of-a-kind.

Well on a scary note, since Halloween is coming up, my Handmadens show is less than a month away. I don't even want to count how many things I have done, then I'll get the scare of how many things I need to get done this week! EEK!! Well enough with this I just convinced myself I need to get to work. Til the next time, Tah Tah

Work Update

Well the weather cooled down enough for me to feel like getting in the garage and building some much needed storage for the bathroom. I really liked how they turned out, the shelf over the toilet holds cleaners and extra toilet paper. The large cupboard is for towels and extra shampoos and such. The room is finally coming together!

I'm figuring out how late in the year it is with this colder weather. I've got to get my rear in gear for my shows this upcoming season! Here is just a photo of some things I'm starting on. I'm not quite sure what they will become, I guess we'll see!

Well, well, well, what have I been up to? September already? It actually feels more like late October outside, confusing the senses. We've gotten so busy at the car lot I haven't been able to work on my "crafty things" there, so I brought all of my things home. Now finding a place for them was difficult. I don't have a room that is just my craft room. Luckily I had a big cupboard that I had just finished. Can yo believe I bought this on ebay for $50? And it was local! That does not happen often in Nebraska.

This smaller one I've had for a little while. It is so deep it holds a lot! The last picture is a corner in the room that has a built in shelf unit. I sewed the curtain to cover up my mess behind, then I used the same fabric to cover the cork board.

This last weekend, I used the extra day off to get some of my fall decor out. I didn't want to go all out Halloween yet, just a couple little fall touches. There was a flea market over Memorial weekend and I found this wonderful dough box. I realized the bottom wasn't original, although the dealer tried to convince me it was. But I have always wanted one. It looks great with fall stuff! I found this neat whispy fall berry garland at Hobby Lobby, I knew right away I wanted it for the chandelier.

I don't know if you can see him, he blends in with the rug. This is my favorite Halloween decoration, but I can't put him away after the season. Ruger is my part Persian pain in the butt. If he's feeling deprived, he jumps in to my arms and makes me carry him around. It's a wonder I get anything done. The Siamese, Josie, is my husbands little girl. She has a knack for getting into trouble...

Here are some more great things I got at the flea market, old wood spoons. Can you image eating out of these? This wonderful sled I got at a shed sale. Wont it look wonderful on the table at Christmas time to create levels?

I have managed to work on some new things too. I've got a fall rug hooked. I just need to bind the edges. I'm still new to rug hooking, I draw my own patterns. I've got some winter and Christmas ideas brewing.

Well this has been one of my longer posts, but it has been awhile since I've posted. I'm trying to get better at that. Til next time ~Prim Blessings

It's Been So Long!

Wow... August is here. I have been mia for a while. I don't know what happened to July! What have I been up to? In mid June I took my annual trip to Walnut Iowa for their Father's Day weekend flea market. I ended up with some good finds and left a lot behind I would have LOVED to have.

I just love that little wood trike $22 Can you believe that!

My husband and I have been hard at work in the bathroom as well. It is not quite finished but it is totally usable. Take a peek:

I had my first wholesale show in June. I'll have to post pictures later. It went really well. Hopefully the orders keep coming in! That's all I have to report on today!
