Sketch N Scrap Birthday Bash Challenge

Welcome back to another challenge celebrating Sketch-N-Scraps Birthday Bash!
For today's challenge you are to use paint, ink, or other mixed media products on a layout.
I went a little mixed media crazy in my layout using 5 different products to make it truly unique.
I've had my jar of Golden Soft Gel for some time but haven't played with it until now. I love how it dried clear, only enhancing what it was placed over. It was extremely easy to apply on my paper using a stencil and pallet knife. The medium held it's shape wonderfully.

For my title, I took chipboard letters and painted them my accent color, purple, then covered them in Ranger's Distress Crackle Paint. It doesn't show up very well in the photo, but there is a nice crackle appearance on the letters.
I started by brushing gesso in the center of the paper where my other papers and photo was going to go. Then I moved on to the soft gel. I did use a heat gun to speed the process but the stuff does dry pretty quick. Next, I used an old tooth brush to splatter paint over the entire layout. The trick to a good splatter is to have a slightly damp brush. If the paint is too thick it will glob on, to wet and it's hard to control and you get a water downed look. Practice on a separate sheet before splattering on your layout.

Here is a shot of all of the mediums I used in this layout. It's fun to experiment with different items and techniques. You're not limited to the paper the way it comes, change it up!

What Country Girls Do

Letting off a little steam, country girl style... First time shooting a rifle, here are my first six shots. My husband seems to think I did good, I don't know as I've nothing to compare it to. It's fun though, blowing up targets.

Sketch N Scrap Card Challenge #26

Still hanging in with our Mega Birthday Bash Celebration over at Sketch-N-Scrap? Today I have another card sketch for you. Make sure your upload your card to the SNS blog!
One thing I love about making cards is the fact that I can use my scraps. I pull out my scrap drawer and start digging for papers that coordinate and then go to work. I usually end up with different paper brands, like this card, I used Echo Park, Authentique and American Crafts. Along with a stamp set from TPC Studio.

Sketch N Scrap Layout Challenge #57

I hope you are all enjoying our Sketch-N-Scrap birthday bash! There are special events every day and today I have a layout sketch for you.
I played around with the same papers as my May 1st layout, (cause they are so darn pretty!) Then I went digging through my stash for bits and pieces that worked with the papers for the embellishments.
If you follow my layouts at all, you know more often than not I'm using my CriCut to cut out my titles. I decided to go in a different direction for this layout. The title didn't need to be big and flashy, just a little statement would do. I scanned my sheet of tiny text by Cosmo Cricket and found the perfect saying. If you don't have these sheets, they are a must! I carry 3 different tiny text sheets in my store. They are perfect for scraping, cards and mixed media!
A close up of some of the wonderful embellishments by 7 Gypsies and Maya Road.

Sketch N Scrap Birthday Bash Celebration

Welcome to my first Sketch-N-Scrap Birthday Bash Challenge!
When I think birthday decorating, crepe paper comes to mind right away. Available in 100's of colors, this inexpensive item can be used in many ways when it comes to crafting, scrapping or decorating.
For my layout, I took pieces of crepe paper and stitched them. I pulled the thread to gather and make a bunting effect. I also took a piece of white and wrapped it into a circle for an embellishment.
Items I used in this layout:
Imaginisce • B-day Bash • Paper Pad
Party Supply • Crepe Paper
Technique Tuesday • Ali Edwards • Everyday Words
My Stash • Brad
Brother • Sewing Machine

Create a project using crepe paper and upload it here for a chance to win!
One lucky entry this month will win a $25 Gift Certificate.

Today I have our Inspired By sketch for the month of May.
For my layout, I played with some older papers from my stash from Echo Park. The photos are from this years Easter Egg hunt. It was a wonderful morning and the kids of course had a blast! For my title, I used some alpha stickers from Bella Blvd. I covered them with Distress Stickles to match them to the layout better. They were just a shade off and the glitter helped darken them.
Don't forget to upload your take on our sketch to the SNS Blog for a chance to win!

Wallet Mini Album

I finished another video, this album was inspired by one that I saw on pinterest.

This album I did in the video, the paper line I used is from Fancy Pants Designs, Childish Things.
I stated the wrong score lines in the video. For the main piece, the score marks are 4" 4.25" 8.75" 9" instead of 3.75" 4" 8.75" 9" The album works fine with either dimensions, you just need to adjust the photo mat sizes I stated if you score it at 3.75" & 4".
I made a second album using another paper line from Fancy Pants Designs, called Hopscotch.
These albums are so much fun to make, hope you are all inspired!

Sketch N Scrap Layout Challenge #56

Today I have a wonderful sketch for you from Sketch-N-Scrap! The prize for May comes from Robin's Nest, so be sure to upload your takes on the sketch to the SNS blog for a chance to win!
For my layout I picked 3 pictures of the kiddos from a couple weeks ago. The weather has finally started to act like spring and we've been able to play outside a couple days. Now being at the new house we don't have a lawn or established play area yet, so the kids roam. And when they roam, they tend to gravitate towards mud. It's going to be a long summer...
I absolutely love this paper line by We R Memory Keepers. I didn't have any embellishments that went with the color scheme so I made my own using Ranger Distress Inks on white card stock, then cut out various shapes. I colored the title the same way, but covered it with glossy accents to help it stand out.
If I'm cutting a shape out of white card stock, I usually cut out a dozen or so extra. That way I can quickly grab and color them to match a project. Like the flower below, I have quite a few of those cut out. While I had the inks out for the other shapes in the layout I colored a couple flowers for a beautiful, unique embellishment.
Products I used in this layout:
We R Memory Keepers • Autumn Splendor • Linden
We R Memory Keepers • Autumn Splendor • Tawny
We R Memory Keepers • Autumn Splendor • Orchard
Cricut Expression
White Cardstock
My Stash • Various Dies
My Stash • Brad
